Black Devon Wetlands

Take binoculars if you have them and make a patient, quiet circuit of the wetland trail. Pools, reedbeds and the viewing screen give different places to pause, with birds changing through the seasons. The approach walk is part of the outing, so allow for it rather than expecting to park beside the viewing area. There is no guarantee of a particular species on any visit.

Use town facilities first: there are no toilets on the reserve and no dedicated visitor car park.

Tickets and booking: No ordinary admission ticket is required. Limited parking near Bowhouse Road and Riverside View is in a residential area; park considerately. Keep dogs under close control and follow reserve notices.
Access and getting around: RSPB describes surfaced paths and boardwalks within the reserve, but the 650m approach includes a slight slope and two heavy deer gates. Proposed gate replacement is not confirmed complete; ask about current access if opening gates is difficult.

Visiting with children: A short wildlife-spotting list can work better than a long silent watch. Keep children close near water, leave birds undisturbed and allow energy for the return approach.
