ONE GOOD DAY IN CHESTER

Roman Chester with a park finish

A compact history day with outdoor breathing room. Walking and visit times are editorial estimates, not verified step-free routes; check the museum’s opening day first.

1. Grosvenor Museum

   Allow 60–90 minutes for the Roman galleries. Take 45–60 minutes for lunch around Grosvenor Street or Bridge Street afterwards.

2. Chester Roman Amphitheatre

   Allow about 10–15 minutes to walk east through the centre, then 20–40 minutes looking at the remains. Use the perimeter if steps into the arena are unsuitable.

3. Grosvenor Park

   Allow 5–10 minutes to reach the park entrance by St John’s, then 45–60 minutes for a walk, rest or play. Check gate closing time and leave a return-journey margin.

A shorter day
Keep the museum and lunch, or choose the amphitheatre and park for a short outdoor outing when the museum is closed.
