Gourock works best as a coastal day with one main activity. Start around Kempock Street and the waterfront, adding the climb towards Granny Kempock Stone only if the steps suit your group. The stone’s traditions give the walk a local story, while the seafront itself can be enjoyed as a shorter, gentler route. If swimming is the reason for coming, check the outdoor pool before arranging the rest of the day. Its heated water is appealing, but it is a seasonal open-air facility. Public swimming ends on 28 September in the 2026 season. Ordinary admission and pre-booked Starlight sessions also follow different arrangements, so choose the actual session you want rather than assume every advertised activity runs daily. Lunderston Bay is a separate outing along Cloch Road, with beach, play and picnic possibilities. Plan transport and the return journey before settling in, especially if travelling without a car. Gourock Park provides a smaller green-space alternative within the town, useful when a full beach transfer would make the day too busy. A comfortable first visit is the waterfront and lunch, with either a swim or the bay added. For a shorter alternative, stay around Kempock Street and the seafront. In strong wind or persistent rain, reduce the exposed walking; this guide does not pretend Gourock has a large collection of indoor attractions.
FIND YOUR KIND OF DAY
Swim in heated saltwater with the Clyde as the backdrop. This is an open-air pool with changing facilities and a separate baby pool, so it offers a different experience from a beach swim. Give it a proper place in the day, with time to change, warm up afterwards and enjoy the waterfront.
Connect the waterfront with the streets around Kempock Point and a look at the standing stone known as Granny Kempock. Its seafaring folklore adds a story to a short town walk, while the open views explain Gourock’s history as a Clyde resort. Treat the stone as one stop within the walk rather than a long standalone visit.
Follow the coast beyond central Gourock for a sandy bay with a play area, picnic space and room to watch the changing water. Beach time and a short coastal stroll work well together, but you can keep the visit entirely around the main facilities. The appeal is an unhurried outdoor break rather than a timetable of attractions.
Use Gourock Park for a change from the seafront, particularly when children need some play time. The public green space sits alongside organised sports facilities, with a children’s play area and pets corner listed by the operator. It is a modest local park visit that can round off the day without another major booking.
