A short coastal heritage walk / GOUROCK
Kempock Stone and Gourock waterfront
Connect the waterfront with the streets around Kempock Point and a look at the standing stone known as Granny Kempock. Its seafaring folklore adds a story to a short town walk, while the open views explain Gourock’s history as a Clyde resort. Treat the stone as one stop within the walk rather than a long standalone visit.

The stone is above the street and the approach involves a climb. Keep the waterfront section if steps or local access notices make the upper stop unsuitable. Folklore is presented as tradition, not established historical fact.

- No admission ticket is needed for the public walk. Town-centre parking has signed restrictions; some free periods still require a ticket or parking disc. This is not a ferry ticket or guaranteed boat excursion.
- Access and getting around
- The promenade and the climb to the stone are different routes. Steps and gradients around the upper streets mean the whole walk should not be assumed step-free. Avoid exposed edges in poor weather and follow any closure notices.

- Keep the walk short enough to remain interesting: look for boats, compare the town and shore, and explain the stone’s stories. Supervise children by roads, steps and the waterfront.
