Arundel Castle and Gardens

Make the castle the main outing of a day: explore the rooms included in your ticket, look up at the fortified walls and leave time for the gardens. Different admission levels suit different interests. The Keep adds a demanding climb, while a garden-focused visit gives you a different view of the buildings without following the whole interior route.

Before you go

The 2026 season runs from 1 April to 1 November, normally closing on Mondays except bank holidays and August. Rooms open at noon, later than the gardens and Keep. Fitzalan Chapel is closed on 22–23 September and the morning of 24 September 2026.

Tickets and booking: Buy online or at the card-only ticket office. Compare Gardens, Castle and Gardens, and the option including Bedrooms; do not assume the cheapest ticket covers every room. The accompanying carer of a disabled adult enters free under the stated arrangement; children needing this concession have different ticket rules. Check current opening, exclusions and evidence requirements.
Access and getting around: The approach to the gardens is a sloping road of about 500m; ask about the assistance buggy. Garden paths include gravel and slopes. A main lift serves the building entrance, but the staff-operated Victorian lift to first-floor rooms is only 60cm wide and does not reach second-floor bedrooms. The Keep has over 100 steep steps; the Chapel also has steps. Accessible toilets and baby changing are available.

Visiting with children: Choose the ticket and route for your children’s stamina. You can enjoy gardens and selected rooms without climbing the Keep. Ask about current trails or demonstrations; event programmes vary. Keep children close on stairs and allow a food break instead of adding another long paid visit.
