Swanage Beach and promenade
Swanage’s central sand sits directly beside the town, with a promenade that lets you enjoy the bay without committing to a long coastal walk. Watch the curve of the shore from near the Mowlem, then choose a patch of beach or a short walk towards Banjo Pier. Shops, cafés and the museum are close enough to make this a flexible first stop.
The RNLI’s published 2026 patrol season ended on 6 September. Check current local conditions and signage before going into the water; a sheltered-looking bay does not mean lifeguards are on duty.

- There is no general admission charge for beach or promenade. Parking, beach huts and refreshments cost extra. Dogs are excluded from council-owned Central Beach from May to September; other beach sections have different rules.
- Access and getting around
- The central promenade has broad, generally level paving, with ramps and steps down to the sand. Summer beach matting is seasonal; confirm it is in place before relying on it. Accessible toilets nearby require a RADAR key.

- The central beach keeps snacks and town facilities close. Supervise children near the sea, follow local flags and hazard notices, and choose a short promenade section if sand or wind becomes tiring.
