PADSTOW GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

An estuary walk or cycle with a chosen turnaround / PADSTOW

Camel Trail from Padstow

Follow the former railway out of Padstow for open estuary views and a change from the harbour streets. You can enjoy a short out-and-back walk without tackling the full route to Wadebridge. Cyclists have more scope to extend the outing, but the trail is shared with walkers and other users, so leave room and keep the pace considerate.

Before you go

Padstow to Wadebridge is 5.5 miles each way. Decide on a turnaround before setting off; reaching the next town on foot is a substantial outing, not a quick harbour detour.

The practical details

Where to find it
Start beside South Quay in Padstow; the wider trail continues through Cornwall towards Wadebridge and Bodmin.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Walking and use of the trail are free. Cycle hire, parking and refreshments are separate purchases; the council advises using a licensed hire provider. Carry what you need for the chosen stretch instead of assuming frequent toilets or food stops.
Access and getting around
Cornwall Council describes the trail as surfaced, virtually level and suitable for wheelchair users. Choose the distance and conditions that suit you; it is largely traffic free rather than wholly separated from all traffic. Town approaches and busy shared sections still need care.

Visiting with children
A short walk gives young children an easy turnaround; keep them close when cycles pass. Hire bikes or child equipment only after checking fit and the provider’s requirements, and allow time to collect and return them.

Make it part of your day

Allow 45–90 minutes for a short walk; longer for a cycle outing for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
