The lobster hatchery and small town museum are Padstow’s most straightforward indoor pairing, especially on a weekday. A seasonal house tour offers another possibility, but exposed harbour walks, ferry landings and gardens should not carry a plan for persistent rain.
For a wet weekday, start with the hatchery and then take a proper lunch break before the museum. The two are near the South Quay and Station Road area, so allow around 5–10 minutes between them, more for busy pavements. Together they make a useful half-day rather than an endless supply of indoor entertainment. The shorter version is one visit and a relaxed meal. Prideaux Place can be the main alternative when a house tour is operating. Arrange the tour and check access first; the uphill approach and gardens remain outside, and a grounds ticket alone does not give the same sheltered visit. On a weekend the museum and house are normally unavailable, leaving the hatchery as the dependable starting point within this collection. Check the hatchery’s current stairlift restriction if your group needs upper-floor access. Confirm volunteer staffing at the museum, and do not fill gaps with a boat trip unless the operator says conditions and boarding suit the outing. Harbour cafés provide a break, but a booked meal has its own hours and availability.

See lobsters at different stages of life and discover how the hatchery supports the local marine environment. The visitor centre puts the fishing boats outside into a different context: this is a working conservation charity with exhibits about animals and their survival, rather than a large aquarium that fills a whole day.
This small, volunteer-run museum in Station House explains Padstow through its maritime and social history. It is a useful companion to the boats and streets outside, especially if you want to understand the town beyond its restaurants. Allow time to look closely and ask the volunteers a question, rather than expecting a large museum circuit.
Walk uphill from the harbour for a different view of Padstow at this Elizabethan family home. Choose a guided house visit or a grounds-only ticket, with the gardens and outlook towards the deer park giving a reason to linger. The house and grounds are a seasonal weekday outing, not an option to assume is open whenever the town is busy.
