PADSTOW GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Marine conservation on South Quay / PADSTOW

National Lobster Hatchery

See lobsters at different stages of life and discover how the hatchery supports the local marine environment. The visitor centre puts the fishing boats outside into a different context: this is a working conservation charity with exhibits about animals and their survival, rather than a large aquarium that fills a whole day.

Before you go

The stairlift is currently out of service, with no wheelchair access upstairs. Contact the hatchery before visiting if that affects your party; the operator offers a reduced admission for wheelchair users unable to see the whole centre.

The practical details

Where to find it
South Quay, Padstow PL28 8BL, beside the start of the Camel Trail.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
The visitor centre advertises daily opening, normally 10am–4pm. Standard admission is valid for return visits for 12 months; check eligibility and current terms when purchasing. Paid parking nearby can fill in peak periods.
Access and getting around
The current visitor page reports irreparable stairlift damage and no wheelchair access to the upper floor. Ask about the areas you can visit and your specific equipment before buying admission; do not plan around an upstairs lift being available.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
The changing sizes of the lobsters give children something concrete to compare. Keep the visit compact and follow staff instructions around the exhibits; pair it with a meal or a short outdoor stretch.
