LYME REGIS GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

A promenade walk beside the bay / LYME REGIS

Lyme Regis seafront and Cobb views

Follow Marine Parade and the Cart Road between the town centre and the harbour for beach views, boats and the curve of the Cobb. The paved seafront makes a useful short outing in its own right. Going onto the harbour wall or down onto sand and shingle is a separate choice, with different surfaces and exposure.

Before you go

Enjoy the Cobb from the promenade when the wall or weather does not suit you. Waves can overtop the harbour structure, and the wall has uneven surfaces and unguarded edges.

The practical details

Where to find it
Marine Parade and Cart Road, between the town centre and Cobb harbour, Lyme Regis.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
No admission is charged for a promenade walk. Parking, meals and beach-hut hire are separate costs. Check local signs, weather and harbour-work notices before extending onto the Cobb; beach-wheelchair availability needs confirmation.
Access and getting around
Marine Parade provides a flat seafront route; the Cobb itself is uneven and beach surfaces differ from the promenade. Seasonal matting should be checked before arrival. The council offers free beach-wheelchair hire by arrangement, collected from Marine Parade Shelters.

Visiting with children
Supervise children near quay edges and do not swim in the harbour, its mouth or pontoon area. RNLI’s published 2026 Cobb Beach patrol season ended on 6 September; do not assume lifeguards are present now.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 45–90 minutes, longer with food or beach time for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
