The Town Mill is best fitted before its early-afternoon closing; swap the order if you plan a longer lunch. Dinosaurland provides a second indoor choice during its February-to-October-half-term season. A keen fossil visitor might enjoy both museums, but others will prefer one collection and a relaxed meal. On a Monday outside Dorset school holidays, use Dinosaurland and the mill if they are opening. The shorter plan is a single museum with food nearby, not a wet walk to every landmark. The museum lift does not reach every floor, and Dinosaurland’s upper Time Gallery uses stairs. The Town Mill offers a ground-floor platform experience but its entire three-floor route should not be assumed step-free. Check your specific needs before choosing. A fossil beach walk or exposed Cobb visit is not a substitute indoor activity; follow the operator and harbour conditions rather than pressing on to fill the day.

Explore the fossil discoveries and people that made Lyme Regis important to the history of science, alongside stories of the town and its writers. The museum’s position beside the sea helps connect the collections with the coast outside. It is a good first stop for context before choosing a more demanding beach fossil walk.
This independent museum concentrates on fossils themselves: local Jurassic marine specimens, displays explaining geological time and natural-history material for comparison. It rewards looking closely at shapes and details, with enough variety to hold a committed fossil enthusiast. It is a traditional collection in the old town, rather than a ride-based dinosaur attraction.
Step away from the seafront into Mill Lane for a restored watermill where volunteers keep traditional flour milling alive. When the mill is open, a free self-guided visit lets you look through its floors and see the waterwheel. The courtyard, small garden and surrounding independent businesses make this a flexible stop rather than a single large attraction.
