A working watermill in the old town / LYME REGIS

The Town Mill

Step away from the seafront into Mill Lane for a restored watermill where volunteers keep traditional flour milling alive. When the mill is open, a free self-guided visit lets you look through its floors and see the waterwheel. The courtyard, small garden and surrounding independent businesses make this a flexible stop rather than a single large attraction.

Before you go

The mill opens for a shorter window than many shops, especially on Sunday. Put it before a late lunch instead of assuming you can drop in at the end of the afternoon.

Tickets and booking: Self-guided mill viewing is free and does not need booking when open; donations support the charity. Regular hours are 11am–3pm Monday–Saturday and 11am–1:30pm Sunday, subject to change and possible earlier winter closing. Gallery, workshops, food and shops have separate arrangements.
Access and getting around: The operator describes step-free site approaches from Coombe Street/Mill Lane and along The Lynch, a wheelchair-accessible garden and a platform giving a ground-floor mill experience. The full three-floor viewing route should not be assumed step-free. From Broad Street use Coombe Street and Mill Lane to avoid the footbridge steps.

Visiting with children: The working machinery gives children a clear process to watch; follow the volunteers’ instructions and keep hands clear of equipment. Shorten the visit to the waterwheel and the parts of the mill that suit your party.
