Lyme Regis Museum fossil walk

Join the museum’s guides on East Beach and Black Ven to learn how to recognise fossils and understand the coast that produced them. The walk makes the landscape part of the lesson, with time spent searching as well as listening. It is a substantial outing on natural beach terrain, so it belongs at the centre of the day rather than in a spare hour.

Before you go

Participants must be at least six years old. The museum says its fossil walks are unsuitable for buggies, baby carriers, wheelchairs and walking aids, and for people with limited mobility.

Tickets and booking: Book an available date and time online, then meet outside the museum ten minutes before departure. Museum entry is included. Keep the remainder of the day flexible around the booked walk and conditions; do not buy separate museum admission without checking what you already have.
Access and getting around: The natural shore can be uneven, slippery, wet, muddy and covered in seaweed. The walk is physically demanding and its restrictions apply even though parts of the museum are accessible. Ask the museum about an indoor fossil-handling alternative if the terrain does not suit you.

Visiting with children: No under-sixes are permitted. Suitable children still need the stamina for a long beach outing, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Follow the guide’s route and instructions; a fossil kit is optional, not a requirement for joining.
