Download your ticket before arriving because mobile signal can be limited. The castle car park is uphill; the council car park at road level is a separate facility and neither parking charge is included in admission.

Tickets and booking: Dated admission is sold online or on arrival without a fixed arrival slot, subject to capacity. Card/contactless only. Eligible reduced-access tickets require evidence and include one free accompanying carer aged eighteen or over. The published 2026 calendar closes the castle 9–13 November for installation work; check your date and any separately priced event.
Access and getting around: The first five state rooms, including the King’s Hall, have wheelchair access via a separate entrance and ramps. Wheelchairs, walking aids and crutches are not allowed beyond the King’s Hall. Grounds include slopes and steps. A shuttle buggy runs from the castle’s own uphill car park, not from the village or council car park; ask staff about assistance.

Visiting with children: Pushchairs are not allowed in the state rooms; bring a suitable carrier or ask about loan carriers. Under-fives enter free. Choose a few rooms and an outdoor break rather than requiring every child to complete the full route; exposed grounds need weather-appropriate clothing.
