Outside, a short public walk can connect the stories with the harbour and memorial. The castle remains an imposing landmark from the exterior, but it is closed for conservation. Older advice about obtaining a key should not shape your day. Respect operational piers and private buildings instead of assuming every waterside route is open to explore. The Sands of Meal is a separate outing on West Burra, reached by road over the bridges beyond Scalloway. Decide whether that extra journey suits the weather and your available time. A beach visit and picnic can be enough, without committing to the longer Hamnavoe circular route. Check the return bus if using public transport and leave room for the journey back.
