ALLOA GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Reservoir scenery with an industrial story / NEAR ALLOA

Gartmorn Dam Country Park

Visit this country park near Sauchie for water views, birds and a walk chosen for your time and mobility. The reservoir was built to support local mining, so it adds an industrial thread to a day that starts at Alloa Tower. A short waterside section can be as rewarding as completing the full circuit; stop for refreshments only if the café is open.

Before you go

Read the posted vehicle gate-closing time on arrival. It changes seasonally, and a late return may leave your car inside locked gates.

The practical details

Where to find it
Gartmorn Dam Country Park, near Sauchie, Clackmannanshire
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Parking near the former visitor centre is currently free. That building is now a café, not a guaranteed staffed interpretation centre. Angling is closed; check current wildlife notices and café opening separately.
Access and getting around
The council identifies accessible sections and says some other areas, including the full circuit, may require assistance. Use its detailed route information to choose a suitable section; do not assume the whole circuit is step-free or uniformly surfaced.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Keep children back from the reservoir edge and follow wildlife notices. This is a land-based walk and picnic suggestion, not a swimming or fishing outing.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1–2½ hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
