Arbroath Signal Tower Museum

The former shore station for the Bell Rock Lighthouse is a good place to understand the coast before walking around the harbour. Explore the lighthouse story, fishing heritage and changing displays at a manageable pace, using the objects and audiovisual material to connect the museum with the boats outside. This is a visit to the shore museum, not a trip to the offshore lighthouse.

Before you go

Ordinary museum admission is free. Access to the tower room is a separate guided opportunity, with 70steps and a ladder; do not assume it is part of every visit.

Tickets and booking: Check the seasonal schedule: currently closed Tuesdays in April–October, with fewer winter opening days. Last admission is 30minutes before closing. Special events or tours may require separate tickets.
Access and getting around: Wheelchair access is available to the lower floors, with a virtual alternative for the upper tower experience. The tower route has steps and a ladder. Accessible toilets are listed; contact the museum if a particular route or facility is essential.

Visiting with children: The fishing displays include audiovisual games and quizzes. Keep the main museum as the family plan unless everyone meets the requirements for a separately offered tower tour.
