AYLESBURY GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Local collections and a separate children’s gallery / AYLESBURY

Discover Bucks Museum, Aylesbury

Use Discover Bucks as the main indoor visit in Aylesbury, choosing the local collections, changing exhibitions or a family ticket that includes the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery. The historic buildings and objects give context to Buckinghamshire beyond the town streets. Leave time to follow the subjects that interest you rather than trying to finish every room.

Before you go

The Children’s Gallery has its own opening pattern and ticket option. It is here in Aylesbury, not the separate Roald Dahl museum in Great Missenden.

Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Book the appropriate museum or combined-gallery ticket for each visit. Current ordinary museum opening is Wednesday to Sunday, with holiday and seasonal changes; the Children’s Gallery has narrower hours. Events and some exhibitions may cost extra.
Access and getting around
The museum describes ground-floor access and a lift to upper galleries, with accessible toilets and baby changing. The Children’s Gallery is across the courtyard in a separate building; ask about the route and support that suit your visit.

Visiting with children
Choose the ticket and date around whether the Children’s Gallery is the main reason for coming. It normally opens at weekends and in Buckinghamshire school holidays; the museum alone is a different experience.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 2–3 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
