AYR GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Sand, sea air and the Low Green / AYR

Ayr beach and promenade

Spend time beside Ayr’s broad sandy shore, choosing a short promenade stroll or a longer outing towards the River Doon. The Low Green and beach play options make it easy to stop without a fixed programme. This is the simplest way to add coast to a town visit when the weather is welcoming.

Before you go

The promenade is a firmer walking option than the sand. Choose the length that suits the wind and your return journey; reaching the far end is optional.

The practical details

Where to find it
Ayr seafront and Low Green
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary beach and promenade access is free. Parking, food and organised events are separate. Facilities and refreshments may have seasonal hours, so check what is open before depending on a particular stop.
Access and getting around
Parts of the promenade are suitable for wheelchair users in normal conditions, but check access points, road crossings and temporary works. Sand is a different surface and can be difficult for wheeled equipment. Coastal exposure can limit comfort.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Allow time for beach play or the play park, and stay close to children near water. Check tides, weather and current bathing-water advice before paddling; do not infer safe conditions from a calm-looking photograph.

Practical information checked 16 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1–3 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
