Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Cottage
Explore Burns through the museum’s objects and displays, then follow the Poet’s Path to the cottage where he was born if time and weather allow. The two spaces offer different perspectives: one helps you understand his work and life, the other its domestic beginnings. Treat Alloway as a focused outing south of Ayr’s centre.

The combined visit involves a 500 m outdoor link, and the cottage closes earlier than the museum. Start with whichever part has the tighter opening window.

- A standard ticket includes museum and cottage admission. The museum currently opens daily 10:00–17:00; the cottage opens later and has shorter winter hours from October. Check last entry, closures and any special accessible session before travelling.
- Access and getting around
- The museum, cottage and Poet’s Path have level access, with accessible toilets at the museum and nearby Education Pavilion. Other historic features, including Brig o’ Doon and the monument, have uneven steps or surfaces. Check the detailed access guide for your chosen route.

- Ask for the museum’s family activities and look for a few objects or story details together. The outdoor link and play area can add variety, but plan for the weather and the children’s walking pace.
