Haddon Hall

Make a separate outing south of Bakewell to this fortified manor house, with medieval rooms, later Tudor detail and terraced gardens above the River Wye. The Great Hall, kitchen spaces and Long Gallery give the house a different focus from Bakewell’s smaller local museum. Allow time to look closely instead of treating it as a quick stop on the road.

Check the exact 2026 opening date before arranging transport: the normal season has an October closure. Allow for the walk and road crossing from the car park as well as time inside.

Tickets and booking: In 2026 the Hall and gardens open daily until 7 October, close 8–26 October, reopen 27–30 October, then close from 31 October until the separate Christmas market programme. Normal Hall hours are 10.30am–4pm, last entry 3pm. Parking charges separately. Ordinary admission is not a ticket to roam the wider medieval park; guided park walks and special events have separate arrangements.
Access and getting around: The house and terraced gardens are unsuitable for wheelchairs and wheeled mobility aids. A roughly 366m approach includes the A6 crossing and uneven surface; 32 stone steps lead to the house, with further changes of level and many steps without rails. Contact the estate about suitability before booking.

Visiting with children: Children aged 0–15 enter free for general admission, with adults charged. Pushchairs cannot be used in the house or gardens; storage is available and families can bring their own carrier. Supervise near low parapets, drops and water, and choose a shorter route if needed.
