Bakewell Old House Museum

Explore a Tudor building that changed from a tax collector’s house to a larger residence and later workers’ homes. Original features sit alongside objects donated by local people, connecting Bakewell’s domestic history with life across the Peak. Its eleven rooms reward a close look at the building as well as the collection.

The museum opens at 11am in its season. Combine it with nearby All Saints so you climb the hill once, then return to the centre for lunch.

Tickets and booking: The 2026 season runs 25 March–5 November, daily 11am–4pm, last entry 3.30pm. Book online or pay at the door. General admission is paid; special free-entry days do not change the normal policy. Limited Blue Badge parking must be arranged ahead. Check current trails and exhibition details before a special journey.
Access and getting around: The short town approach is steep, with a bumpy lane and cobbled forecourt. Request an entrance ramp; only some ground-floor rooms are wheelchair-accessible and the upper floor requires stairs, with no lift. Floors and thresholds are uneven and lighting is low. The courtyard toilet is wheelchair-suitable and has baby changing.

Visiting with children: Ask about the Rat Trail, scavenger hunt or Journey with George resources. Choose a few rooms and objects together; stair and threshold access needs checking for your family. Under-fives enter free, while older children need tickets.
