Bamburgh Beach

Walk onto the broad sandy shore below Bamburgh Castle for sea air and a different perspective on the fortress. A short out-and-back walk can be as rewarding as a long stretch along the coast, especially when the light changes across the sand. Keep the return route clear and let tide, wind and energy decide the distance.

Before you go

Use established access paths through the dunes and check the tide and weather before setting off. The walk to Seahouses is a separate coastal outing with a return journey to arrange, not an automatic extension of a village visit.

Tickets and booking: No beach admission charge. Parking and refreshments are separate. Book any specialist beach chair in advance and check its availability and operating arrangements. Avoid plans that depend on passing rocks at a particular tide without suitable local route information.
Access and getting around: Access involves dunes, uneven surfaces and soft sand. A free volunteer-run beach wheelchair loan scheme can be booked through the parish information page; users need their own helpers and volunteers cannot push. Discuss the chair, route and assistance requirements ahead: the scheme does not make ordinary chairs suitable for all beach approaches.

Visiting with children: Stay close to children beside the sea and agree a visible meeting point. Bring warm layers, water and a change of clothes if appropriate. Check current local notices and patrol provision before any water activity; a sand-and-scenery visit does not require swimming.
