Porthkerry Country Park

Choose Porthkerry for a green-space day with a different feel from Barry Island. Woods and meadow lead towards a pebble beach, with the railway viaduct forming a striking part of the landscape. A picnic, a selected nature trail and play time can be enough; the longer coastal connections are optional rather than a requirement for enjoying the park.

Before you go

The former golf-course area is being managed for wildlife. Use current paths and notices rather than expecting an operating golf attraction.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary park access is free; parking is charged and café purchases are separate. Picnics are welcome, but the council prohibits barbecues and fires.
Access and getting around: Picnic tables and benches are near the main car park, but woodland and coastal trails vary in surface and gradient. Ask the park team about a suitable route; the wider coast walk includes steep sections.

Visiting with children: The adventure play area can break up walking. Supervise near ponds, the beach and cliffs, and choose a route that leaves enough energy for the return.
