A museum and the Great Ouse →
An easy first visit centred on Castle Lane and the river, with an optional second museum.
A riverside stroll with a park pause / BEDFORD
Follow a manageable section of the Great Ouse through Bedford, then turn towards Russell Park for a change from museums and town streets. The pleasure is in the river views and an unhurried pause, not completing a long-distance route. It works well between an indoor visit and a meal.

Choose your turnaround before setting off. The water is an open river, and bridges, events or works may alter the easiest route; shorten the walk after heavy rain or when paths are affected.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Allow 30–90 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
