The Higgins Bedford

Use The Higgins as a starting point for the town: its collections bring local stories into conversation with art and design. A few carefully chosen displays can make a satisfying visit without trying to absorb every gallery. General entry is free, although the current flood-damage notice means some displays are unavailable.

Before you go

Check the museum’s latest notice before travelling for a particular work. The Edward Bawden exhibition is currently closed and some Settlement display cases are empty; the rest of a visit should not be planned around those displays.

Tickets and booking: General visiting does not need a ticket. Check opening days, affected galleries and separate booking requirements for workshops or events.
Access and getting around: The museum provides step-free access across its levels, accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility. Limited accessible parking needs advance discussion; ask about loan wheelchairs and any route changes during the current works.

Visiting with children: Choose a small number of objects or pictures to discuss and ask about current family resources. Special workshops can need booking and may have a charge even when ordinary museum entry is free.
