Main Guard Museum
Look inside the separate guardhouse on Palace Green for an introduction to Berwick’s civic and military past. Its modest scale makes it a useful companion to the walls rather than a substitute for a large museum visit. The Main Guard is away from the closed Barracks complex.
Check the current volunteer opening before making a special journey. The museum operates seasonally; an afternoon visit can fit after lunch and a morning on the ramparts.

- Free entry, with donations welcomed. Current English Heritage information lists afternoons, excluding Wednesdays and Thursdays; confirm the date and season with the operator. Special heritage events can have different arrangements.
- Access and getting around
- Contact Berwick Civic Society about the entrance, movement around the small rooms and any assistance you need. Plan a toilet stop at an open town venue. This is a different building from the Barracks, so access information for that complex does not describe this visit.
