Beverley Beck

Follow the short waterway that once carried goods between Beverley and the River Hull. Moorings and the historic barge setting reveal another side of a town better known for its churches. Start at the town end and turn back when you have had enough; reaching Grovehill Lock is optional.

Treat this as a bankside walk. Historic vessel open days, boat hire and trips have separate dates and arrangements; seeing a moored boat does not mean it is open to board.

Tickets and booking: The bankside stroll is free and needs no attraction ticket. The waterway is about three-quarters of a mile long, so an out-and-back visit adds the return distance plus the walk from the centre. Boat activities and special open days need separate operator checks.
Access and getting around: The route is beside open water and includes changes in the bankside environment. Check the surface and any restrictions on arrival, turn back if conditions deteriorate, and allow for roads on the approach. Ask local tourist information about a route suited to wheels or reduced mobility.

Visiting with children: Keep children away from the water’s edge and working moorings. Look for boats and traces of the old port, then turn back before tiredness makes the return walk difficult.
