Walk out from the town into open pasture, with broad skies, grazing animals and the Black Mill as a landmark. This is working common land shared with golf and other activity, rather than a landscaped garden with one prescribed circuit. Choose a short out-and-back walk if you simply want fresh air between indoor visits.

Before you go

Give grazing animals space, keep dogs on leads as the Pasture Masters request, and watch for golf and traffic on roads across the common. Barbecues and fires are prohibited.

Tickets and booking: Walking on the common is free. Animals generally graze from April to December; check current Pasture Masters notices. Parking restrictions apply, and the common is not an all-day town car park. Food, organised activities and racecourse admission are separate.
Access and getting around: Grass and woodland ground can be uneven or muddy, with slopes and road crossings. Choose a route for the conditions and your mobility needs; a shorter town-edge look may suit better than crossing the pasture. Check local signs and current works.

Visiting with children: Keep children close around livestock, golfers and roads. Bring a picnic only if conditions suit, carry litter away and leave grazing animals undisturbed. This is not an enclosed play area.
