Choose a heritage train journey, time in the Museum of Scottish Railways, or a combination of both. The collection gives a close view of railway vehicles and working history, while the train makes a separate excursion. The operating calendar matters more than a normal weekday opening pattern: neither should be assumed available every day.

Tickets and booking: The 2026 museum season is April–October on train-running days, with special dates outside it. Train and museum tickets are distinct, with some discounts for railway ticket holders. Confirm the calendar, service type and fare before travelling.
Access and getting around: The museum has level access via an authorised crossing beside the footbridge, level exhibition halls and a lift to the viewing gallery. Some vehicles have ramps, but not every vehicle interior is accessible. Confirm suitable train accommodation directly before booking.

Visiting with children: Select a journey and a few museum highlights instead of assuming children will want every display. Keep away from working tracks and use designated crossings; toilets and baby changing are listed at the museum.
