Castell Coety (Coity Castle)
Choose Coety when you want a more substantial ruin to explore beyond central Bridgend. The surviving spaces show how the castle changed over several centuries, making a rewarding slow circuit for people who enjoy reading a building’s shape. Pair it with a quiet village pause instead of automatically collecting every local castle in one day.
The castle is in Coity, a separate trip from town. Newcastle is usually the simpler choice for a short central visit; doing both makes most sense when medieval history is your main interest.

- Entry is free within the advertised daytime opening, with seasonal holiday closures to check. Parking is very limited: do not block residential drives or the farmer’s field gate. Allow a separate transfer and avoid arriving near last entry.
- Access and getting around
- Cadw describes mostly grass and gravel with protruding stonework. Moat-side paths narrow and can be slippery; the moat may flood. Keep to permitted routes and do not enter upper ruins or cross barriers.

- Look for changes in the walls and keep children away from the moat and unstable-looking edges. This is an outdoor ruin to observe, not equipment to climb.
