Leave the shopping streets for a walk or picnic in Newbridge Fields beside the Ogmore. Open space and a shorter riverside section make a useful contrast to close-up heritage visits, especially when you need time to talk or let the day unfold. Pick an out-and-back distance that suits everyone instead of assuming you must continue far downstream.

This is a working recreation area with sports pitches as well as public space. Give matches room and keep a picnic or gentle walk separate from any organised sporting facilities.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary public walking and recreation are free. Sports pitches and organised sessions have separate arrangements. Bring your own picnic if useful and check town facilities rather than assuming a staffed visitor centre on the fields.
Access and getting around: Choose surfaced routes where suitable and check local conditions after heavy rain. The wider river corridor includes variable ground and is not one guaranteed step-free trail. Stay away from flooded paths and the river edge.

Visiting with children: A snack and open-space break can be enough after the castle. Supervise beside water and respect playing areas in use; do not promise a particular playground or booked activity.
