Devil’s Dyke
Leave the seafront for an open South Downs landscape above a deep dry valley. A short outing near the arrival area can be enough to appreciate the setting; longer walks need a route matched to fitness, daylight and ground conditions. It is a separate countryside trip from Brighton, with the journey forming part of the day.

- Devil’s Dyke, near Poynings in West Sussex, north-west of Brighton. Use the National Trust map for the hilltop arrival point.

- There is no general countryside admission charge, but parking and bus travel may cost. The hilltop pub is independently operated; check separately if a meal is essential.
- Access and getting around
- The National Trust describes grassy, uneven paths and woodland routes that can be muddy. A short viewpoint visit and a descent into the valley involve different effort; do not assume a circular walk is accessible.
