Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

Combine art and historic collections in a grand building at the top of Park Street. It rewards a selective visit: pick paintings or a historical subject, then see where your curiosity leads. Its uphill position makes it a different outing from the level-looking harbour circuit.

The British and World Wildlife galleries are closed until summer 2027 according to the current museum notice. Choose this visit for the available art and history collections, and check the live gallery information before promising children a particular display.

Tickets and booking: No individual general-entry reservation is needed. Groups of 10 or more book ahead; temporary exhibitions may have their own tickets.
Access and getting around: Level entrance doors sit to the left of the main entrance. The passenger lift reaches public areas except Sea Dragons; consult the sensory map and ask staff about any essential gallery access.

Visiting with children: Keep expectations specific while wildlife galleries are closed. A shorter exploration with one subject and a snack can work better than attempting the entire building.
