BUSHMILLS GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Harbour views and a seaside pause / NEAR BUSHMILLS

Portballintrae harbour and coastal stroll

Make the short separate journey to Portballintrae for the harbour, seafront views and a chosen stretch of coastal path. It offers a gentler seaside focus than a long hike to the Causeway, with room to stop and watch the changing light over the water.

Before you go

Runkerry Beach is not suitable for bathing or water sports because of rip currents. Enjoy the shore from land; a calm-looking sea is not a reason to ignore local warnings.

The practical details

Where to find it
Portballintrae village, near Bushmills
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary public seafront access is free; parking, refreshments and organised water activities have their own arrangements. Check toilets, signs, tides and weather. Longer coastal walks need a route and return plan.
Access and getting around
Choose the seafront section that suits your mobility. Routes beyond the harbour can include slopes, uneven ground, steps and exposed headlands. Do not assume a complete coastal loop is accessible because the starting car park is convenient.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Keep close supervision around harbour edges and roads. A short seafront walk is a better default than the longer cliff route, and Runkerry is not a family swimming recommendation.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
