BUXTON GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Limestone caves / BUXTON

Poole’s Cavern

Follow the illuminated route beneath Buxton to see the limestone chambers and mineral formations, with the underground river adding sound and movement. Choose a guided tour or the self-paced audio option according to how you prefer to explore. The woodland above makes an optional change of scene afterwards, but the cavern alone can be the main outing.

Visiting with children
A child carrier may be more practical than a buggy, which must be left outside the route. The river can be noisy, particularly in winter. Ask about sensory bags or specially arranged tours if needed, and plan a food break before any uphill woodland extension.
