Spa-town history / BUXTON
Buxton Crescent Experience
Discover how water shaped Buxton through nine rooms of stories, objects and multimedia inside the Crescent. The experience connects the town’s spa visitors with the restoration of the Georgian building, including a virtual flight over historic Buxton. It is a heritage visit at your own pace with hosts available, separate from bathing in the hotel spa.

Start at the Pump Room for ticket arrangements and leave around 90 minutes for the experience. A heritage ticket is not a spa reservation.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- The Crescent; visitor reception at the Pump Room, Buxton SK17 6BH
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Book or check availability before travelling. Normal opening is daily 10.30am–4pm, with last entry at 3pm. Redeem tickets at the Pump Room 10–15 minutes before your allocated time, following the instructions on your booking. Assembly Rooms open days, guided events and the hotel’s thermal spa have separate arrangements.
- Access and getting around
- The colonnade has level approaches from either end and can be slippery when wet. Staff accompany visitors using the lift, which is listed as 90cm wide and 213cm deep. Basement rooms have uneven floors, low ceilings and dim lighting; seating and an accessible toilet are available. Discuss equipment and sensory requirements ahead; the hotel tests its fire alarm on Thursdays.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Choose a few interactive stories and allow time for questions. Ask about current family trails and whether the virtual-reality elements suit your child. Special craft and early-years sessions have separate dates; ordinary admission does not promise a workshop.
