CHELTENHAM GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Gardens and Regency streets / CHELTENHAM

Montpellier Gardens

Montpellier Gardens is a compact southern-centre pause, with lawns, mature trees and a bandstand framed by Cheltenham’s Regency neighbourhood. It works especially well after an indoor visit: sit down, make a short circuit and continue to nearby places to eat. Families can aim for the play area, while visitors with less time can enjoy the garden without turning it into a long walk.

Before you go

Use this as the green-space stop for a central day; Pittville is a separate northern outing, rather than the next garden around the corner.

The practical details

Where to find it
Montpellier Walk, Cheltenham GL50 1SD, south of the Promenade.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary garden entry is free; café purchases, sports and events may cost extra. Check the council’s notices before a facility-dependent visit. Montpellier toilets have a one-day cleaning closure on 14 September 2026, and events can change the amount of space available.
Access and getting around
The council lists accessible paths, benches, picnic tables and a Changing Places facility at the Montpellier Walk entrance. Bring the required RADAR key and any personal equipment needed. Temporary closures and events can affect facilities and routes.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
The southern part contains a play area and other recreation facilities. Keep the outing flexible around a snack and time on the grass; concerts, festivals and organised activities are occasional additions, not everyday features of a free park visit.

Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 45–90 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
