Coventry Cathedral and ruins
See the old cathedral’s open-air shell alongside the modern cathedral that followed it. The contrast is the heart of the visit: surviving stone, changing light and a new interior shaped by art and the work of reconciliation. Treat the two spaces as one story, allowing a quiet pause rather than moving straight from photograph to photograph.

Check the cathedral calendar before arriving: services and events affect visiting. In rain, give the New Cathedral more time and shorten the outdoor ruins; tower and Blitz Museum opening is separate.

- Ordinary entry to the ruins and New Cathedral is free, with donations invited. Tours, tower climbs and events have their own arrangements and should not be assumed included or available every day.
- Access and getting around
- The cathedral lists level entrances to the ruins and New Cathedral, with uneven cobbles and paving between areas. Most nave-level areas are accessible, but the Chapel of Unity and Chapel of Christ the Servant are exceptions. Use the detailed current access statement.

- Choose a few colours, shapes or materials for children to notice and explain the ruins sensitively. Keep voices considerate in worship spaces; a tower climb is optional and not required for a worthwhile visit.
