Sand, shingle and a flexible seaside pause / CROMER
Cromer beach and promenade
Choose a short promenade walk or time on the beach below the town. The mix of sand and shingle changes with the tide, so a beach afternoon needs a different plan from looking out over the sea in ordinary shoes. Keep the pier as a landmark and leave time for the climb or ramp back into Cromer.

Check the tide and conditions before settling on the sand. The east and west beaches have different lifeguard seasons; a photograph of a summer patrol is not evidence that one is on duty today.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- East and west of Cromer Pier, below the town centre
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- No ordinary beach admission charge. Parking, food and equipment cost separately. RNLI published 2026 patrols finish on 6 September west and 13 September east; check the current RNLI page and flags rather than assuming cover. Avoid sitting beneath cliffs and follow local closures.
- Access and getting around
- Access between town and shore uses steps, slopes and ramps; the sand and shingle are not a level paved route. Ask about the best approach for your needs and beach-wheelchair arrangements before travel. Do not infer all promenade sections remain open after storms.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Bring layers, water and a change of clothing for a sand-led visit. Supervise children near water and keep clear of working boat-launch areas. A short promenade out-and-back can be enough when a beach session does not suit.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 45 minutes–2 hours, depending on tide and weather for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
