River scenery and a flexible town park walk / CUMNOCK

Woodroad Park

Use Woodroad Park for a break beside the Lugar Water and a view of the railway viaduct. The park can be a short walk and play stop or the start of a longer route, depending on the surfaces and gradients your group wants. It is a useful outdoor companion to the Baird Institute without making the day depend on another booking.

Before you go

Turn back before the bridge and steeper route if you need the simpler tarmac section; the whole published walk is not step-free.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary public park access is free. There is no operating outdoor swimming pool here; do not confuse the former Woodroad pool with the separate pool in New Cumnock. Follow local signs and any path restrictions.
Access and getting around: The published route starts on tarmac, then changes to gravel beyond the river bridge. Bridge steps and the climb towards Mote Hill make the longer approximately 1.5km route more demanding. Wet weather can change footing beside the river.

Visiting with children: The council lists a play area here. Choose a small walk and play break, supervise near the river, and plan food and toilets in town instead of relying on seasonal park services.
