Dalkeith Country Park
Choose a waymarked walk through the estate, then pause around Restoration Yard for refreshments if you wish. The park can fill a relaxed half-day without a demanding itinerary. Families can instead make separately ticketed Fort Douglas the main activity, while other adventures and events have their own bookings. These are different ways to enjoy one estate, not a list of identical park attractions.
Before you go
The free walking visit is separate from paid parking, Fort Douglas, Go Ape and events. Park access does not guarantee entry to Dalkeith Palace; interior visits are tied to specific advertised tours or exhibitions.

- The park currently lists daily access 07:00–19:00 and paid parking. Fort Douglas lists 10:00–17:00, with date-specific tickets; other facilities close independently. Check the current map, gate times and event restrictions before travel.
- Access and getting around
- Use the operator’s accessibility guide to choose a route: surfaced areas and woodland trails differ, and the estate contains slopes, water and uneven ground. Palace entrances have steps. A buggy-friendly play-area path does not mean every woodland route is accessible.

- Fort Douglas is paid and should be booked for the date required. Its play areas, buggy paths and toilets support a longer family visit, but an ordinary woodland walk does not include playground admission. Keep children supervised near rivers.
