Royal Avenue Gardens
The gardens provide an easy pause between Dartmouth’s riverfront and its narrow shopping streets. Wander among the beds, notice the bandstand and fountain, then choose a bench before continuing around the Boat Float. This is a compact public garden for slowing down, not a large estate that requires most of the day.
Keep this as a flexible break around the day’s main visit. Town events can change how the gardens are used, and nearby car parking is not part of free garden entry.

- Ordinary garden entry is free and the destination listing says open all year. Public toilets are listed nearby, but check availability locally. Food, parking and any separately organised event may cost extra.
- Access and getting around
- The gardens occupy the comparatively level central waterfront and have linked paths and benches. The council’s open-space plan describes access from all sides; check temporary event layouts. Steeper town streets and the route to the castle are separate considerations.

- Useful for a rest and a snack between visits. The gardens are close to the river and roads, so continue supervising younger children. They are a planted town space rather than a dedicated playground.
