Dartmouth Museum

Inside a former merchant’s house, Dartmouth’s maritime history becomes a collection of small, absorbing details: model ships, local photographs and the stories of people whose work reached far beyond the river. The historic rooms are part of the experience. Give yourself time to examine the displays and ask the volunteer stewards about something that catches your eye.

Before you go

The main museum is upstairs and has no wheelchair access. Its current opening window is 11am–3pm, so fit it before a late lunch rather than leaving it until the end of the afternoon.

Tickets and booking: General adult admission is paid. The current page lists daily 11am–3pm except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day; check before a special journey. Parking and meals are separate costs.
Access and getting around: Only the narrow street-level entrance lobby is accessible to wheelchair users; the principal museum rooms are not. Contact the museum to discuss individual needs. Allow time for the stairs and choose a different indoor venue if they are unsuitable.

Visiting with children: Under-16s currently enter free. The museum offers questions, microscopes and small details to discover, with stewards available to help; choose a few displays for younger children rather than expecting them to read everything.
