The Japanese Garden at Cowden

Allow time to enjoy the Japanese garden’s views and carefully arranged planting, then choose whether to add the estate’s woodland areas. This is a separate outing near Muckhart, east of Dollar, rather than a garden hidden in the town centre. The formal garden and the more playful woodland areas offer different experiences, so plan around what interests your group.

Before you go

Follow the garden’s published approach from the A91 towards Muckhart. The operator warns that sat-nav directions can lead visitors onto an unsuitable road.

Tickets and booking: Book entry ahead, especially in the main season. The current summer calendar closes Tuesdays; check later-season hours separately. Ordinary tearoom tables are first come, first served, while special meals may require bookings.
Access and getting around: The garden has improved paths, but gradients and loose gravel remain; manual wheelchair users may need assistance. Woodland routes can become unsuitable in some weather. Use the operator’s detailed access guide for your particular route.

Visiting with children: Children are welcome with adult supervision, and Stewart Woodland has play and activity features. Keep children out of ponds and off garden rocks and ornamental features.
