Dover Castle
Choose Dover Castle for a substantial history day above the port. The Great Tower presents the world of Henry II, while the Under Siege exhibition explores a later struggle for the fortress. The grounds make the scale of the defences easier to understand. This is a spread-out site: decide which period interests you most before setting off between buildings.
Operation Dynamo is currently closed for maintenance. Check the English Heritage notice before booking specifically for the wartime tunnels.

- Book for your date and check current opening. The Underground Hospital has separate guided visits arranged on site; ask staff about availability. Operation Dynamo is closed for essential maintenance. Castle visitor parking is included, but is not a base for a separate cliffs day.
- Access and getting around
- Steep slopes connect parts of the grounds. The Great Tower upper floors and Spur Tunnels require stairs; the Under Siege casemates and Spur viewpoint offer step-free alternatives. Contact the castle about equipment, mobility transport and your intended route.

- The siege play area provides a break from interpretation. Ask about loan sensory backpacks and choose a short set of exhibits before lunch. Some underground experiences may not suit children who dislike enclosed spaces.
