Follow the story of the Antarctic expedition through the museum before exploring the ship where conditions and cramped spaces make that story tangible. Leave room for both parts of the visit rather than treating the vessel as a waterfront photo stop. Ongoing conservation is part of the ship’s present-day story, and the exact areas available may change.

Before you go

Check current conservation notices before travelling for a particular part of the ship. A mast-climb experience is a separate activity, not something to assume is included with museum admission.

Tickets and booking: Check the current ticket or combined-pass terms before paying. Opening is seasonal, with shorter winter hours and festive closures; allow a substantial visit rather than arriving near last admission.
Access and getting around: Museum galleries have level access and a lift serves the Discovery Dome. A ramp can provide main-deck access, but the bridge and lower decks involve narrow, steep stairs. A captioned film offers an alternative view of inaccessible ship areas.

Visiting with children: Allow time for children to make sense of life at sea. Keep younger children close on stairs and around deck edges; buggies cannot reach every part of the ship.
