The hilltop helps put the Tay, streets and waterfront into perspective. Make the climb a deliberate part of the day, with time to stop on the way up and recover at the top. A view is never guaranteed, but in clear conditions it makes a satisfying contrast to time spent inside a museum.
The signed Town to Top walk climbs from the city centre and includes steps. This is a hill walk through the city, not a level continuation of the waterfront promenade.

- There is no normal admission charge. The signed route is about one mile uphill from City Square, with roughly 40 minutes suggested for the ascent. Allow more time for stops and return before dark.
- Access and getting around
- The walking route includes gradients, footways and steps. Do not treat it as step-free or suitable for every buggy or wheelchair. Choose another city viewpoint if the climb or weather does not suit your group.

- Best for children who are comfortable with a sustained uphill walk. Keep energy for the descent and carry a layer for the exposed summit; avoid adding it after an already tiring day.
