The McManus

Use the galleries to connect the city outside with the people, objects and art inside. The mix of local history, natural history and pictures gives a group several different ways into the visit. Choose a theme or a handful of objects before taking a break; the museum need not become an exercise in reading every label.

Sunday opening starts later than the rest of the week. Check the current visitor notice if you rely on the lift rather than assuming every gallery is accessible on the day.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary admission is free. Monday–Saturday normally 10:00–17:00; Sunday 12:30–16:30, with last entry 15 minutes before closing. Special activities may charge and holiday closures apply.
Access and getting around: Galleries occupy two floors. Contact the museum about current lift operation and any specific access requirements; an older weather-related notice on its website mentions disruption and should not be treated as a guarantee of normal service.

Visiting with children: A short visit built around animals, objects or a painting can work well. Check the age range and booking arrangements of creative sessions rather than assuming an activity runs throughout the day.
