Make the interactive galleries the main event rather than squeezing them between several museums. Children can investigate at their own pace, return to something that puzzled them and try another approach. A timed session gives the day a useful structure, with food and a short waterfront pause arranged around it.

Before you go

Entry sessions provide two and a half hours on the science floor. Book a suitable slot and arrive ready to use it; the café’s earlier opening is not the start of the exhibition session.

Tickets and booking: Booking is strongly recommended; walk-ins depend on remaining capacity. Check the current session times and age-based prices. Packed lunches are permitted, offering an alternative to buying food on site.
Access and getting around: The centre lists level access, a lift between floors and a Changing Places toilet. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are accommodated; contact staff about sensory needs and the facilities relevant to your visit.

Visiting with children: Under-16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. The hands-on format works best when adults join in, leaving space to repeat an activity rather than insisting on completing everything.
